LASIK was first performed in large numbers in the United States in 1997, giving us the opportunity to measure long term results today. Recall that LASIK technology has evolved enormously over that time and today’s results are even better –with even better long term stability. North Carolina surgeon Dr. Jonathan Christenbury recently presented an interesting study of very long term follow up of two of his patients. The first had LASIK 14 years ago in 2002. Immediately after surgery, her vision was 20/15, which was better than she had ever seen with glasses or contacts. On a recent measurement of her vision by Dr. Christenbury, her vision today still is 20/15. The second patient Dr. Christenbury presented had 20/20 vision after surgery and today, 15 years later, he still has 20/20 vision.
