World Champion Darts Player to Get LASIK

A patient from San Luis Obispo asked me about LASIK and hand eye coordination for sports. I mentioned that the two time World Champion darts player, Gary Anderson, just lost out on his bid for a third world championship while wearing glasses. Anderson has decided to undergo LASIK to improve his eyesight in an all out effort to win a third championship. Anderson will join a long list of professional athletes who have benefited from laser vision correction, from major league baseball players to race car drivers. In regard to the specific question about hand eye coordination and depth perception, a MLB pitcher I had done laser vision correction on a few years ago told me that, after PRK, he was able to place pitches around the plate with much greater precision than he ever had before with glasses or astigmatism correcting contacts. Another patient of mine became the California State marksmanship champion after undergoing LASIK. Anderson made his decision to have LASIK laser eye surgery after losing to Michael Van Gerwen in the PDC World Darts Championship yesterday.
