A patient from Santa Barbara I saw today in my Ventura office asked me about whether professional athletes have had LASIK. He is an avid basketball player. I told him that many professional NBA players have undergone LASIK or PRK, as have pros in many other sports. When I have performed LASIK or PRK on professional athletes, the one benefit they value most is that their athletic performance is better when they don’t have to worry about glasses or contacts. As an example of an NBA basketball player having laser eye surgery, the forward for the Denver Nuggets, Juancho Hernangomez, just underwent LASIK a couple of weeks ago. He went right back to playing in the summer league, scoring 21 points right afterwards in a game against the Houston Rockets.
