Directions to Shapiro Laser Eye Center [ Map ].
For nearly 20 years, patients from Lompoc have trusted their LASIK and PRK laser eye surgery to Dr. David Shapiro at the Shapiro Laser Eye Center. Lompoc is an hour’s drive from the Shapiro Laser Eye Center in San Luis Obispo and an hour’s drive from the Shapiro Laser Eye Center in Santa Barbara, offering patients the scheduling convenience of two offices for state of the art laser vision correction.
Lompoc is located in Santa Barbara County. It has a population of 42,434 people as of the 2010 census. Most of Lompoc is in the Santa Ynez River valley. Recently, Lompoc has been expanding toward the higher ground of Vandenberg Village. For years, Lompoc was known as the flower seed capital of the world, but recently flower fields have diminished and Lompoc may, in fact, have lost this title. Lompoc has also long been famous as the home of the La Purisima Mission.
Today, nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base is the most important contributor to Lompoc’s economy. Another important factor in the local Lompoc economy is the Lompoc Federal Corrections Complex. The Lompoc Federal Corrections Complex has both a medium and a low security Federal Correctional Institution, and two minimum security camps. The Lompoc Federal Corrections Complex also includes a Satellite Prison Camp and a Residential Drug Treatment Camp.
Other mainstays of Lompoc’s economy include a diatomaceous earth mine, the Lompoc Oil Field, Lompoc oil production facilities, and agriculture.
Lompoc has recently been affected by two major new trends. First, Lompoc has become a bedroom community to Santa Barbara. Many of Lompoc’s residents commute to work in Santa Barbara. Second, Lompoc has seen the rise of the now nationally famous Santa Barbara Wine Country. Wine production and wine tourism have added greatly to Lompoc’s economy. Lompoc Valley, and the Santa Barbara Wine Country in general, are famous in particular for their chardonnay and pinot noir wines. Over 30 wineries can be found in Lompoc, collectively known as the “Lompoc Wine Ghetto.” Other wineries can be found along Highway 246 connecting Lompoc with Buelton.
Many Lompoc residents have undergone either LASIK or PRK eye surgery with Dr. Shapiro at the Shapiro Laser Eye Center over the past twenty years. Dr. Shapiro’s San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara offices have provided patients with convenient access to world class laser vision correction. Each office is roughly a one hour’s drive from Lompoc, one to the north and one to the south.
