Laser vision correction offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the procedure done properly for a life changing outcome. Undergoing the highest quality laser vision correction should be your primary concern – not how to pay for it. The Shapiro Laser Eye Center can help you affordably achieve your goal of the highest quality, most advanced laser vision correction. We offer flexible financing and can help you also explore using pre-tax dollars to pay for your procedure with FSA or HSA accounts. Many patients are surprised to learn that the cost of laser vision correction actually pays for itself over ten years’ time or sooner, compared to the ongoing use of contacts and cleaning solutions or expensive glasses.

USING PRE-TAX DOLLARS: FSA/HSA

FSA:
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA’s) — or “cafeteria plans” — are employer-based plans that allow you to set aside pre-tax income to pay for medical costs, including LASIK or PRK laser vision correction. Typically, money set aside for medical costs needs to be used within the same fiscal year you designate it be set aside. In other words, once you set aside a given amount of pre-tax money, you have to “use it or lose it.”  For this reason, many of our patients come in for a consultation at no charge to make sure they are a good candidate for surgery before deciding to put the money in an FSA.  Our staff can help you navigate the FSA process at that visit. You should check with your HR representative at your work and with your tax professional to explore this method of using pre-tax dollars to pay for your laser vision correction.

HSA:
Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), available to individuals enrolled in HSA-qualified high-deductible health care insurance plans, also allow you to use pre-tax dollars to help pay for medical costs, including for LASIK or PRK laser vision correction.  In contrast to FSAs, these typically are not employer-based plans and you typically do not have to use the pre-tax money in the same fiscal year you put the money in your HSA account. As an added benefit, pre-tax dollars put into HSA accounts can earn interest until you use the money to pay for your laser vision correction. You should check with your tax professional to see if this is a possibility for you.

LINE OF CREDIT

Owning a home may allow you to arrange a line a credit and borrow against the equity in your home, potentially making interest payments on the costs of surgery tax-deductible. This helps homeowners to potentially lower the costs involved with their laser vision correction surgery in two ways: by making the interest payments tax deductible and by benefiting from the currently low interest rates.

If you need help with any of these approaches to making premium quality laser vision correction at the Shapiro Laser Eye Center more affordable, please call one of the laser eye care professionals at the Shapiro Laser Eye Center at 805-339-0566.
