I saw a patient from Oxnard in my Ventura office yesterday who asked me about LASIK and professional athletes. Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves’ first baseman, just had LASIK laser vision correction surgery in the offseason. Freeman is famous for wearing glasses but a fan noticed a picture of Freeman on his family’s Instagram page that looked different — Freeman was no longer wearing glasses. MLB.com writer Mark Bowman clarified the situation last Saturday when he tweeted that Freeman, did in fact, have LASIK. I have performed LASIK on professional athletes ranging from an MLB pitcher to pro race car drivers and I have found that in each case, LASIK improved their athletic performance. I am sure Freeman will find similar benefit next baseball season.
