Latest Professional Athlete Having LASIK

A patient from Camarillo asked how LASIK would affect his basketball game. I mentioned that several professional athletes have had LASIK. The most recent professional to have LASIK to improve his game is San Antonio Spurs’ shooting guard Danny Green. Green had been one of the best shooting marksmen in the NBA since joining the Spurs in the 2010-11 season. Green’s performance had fallen off this last season, so he decided to do something about it by having LASIK laser vision correction to improve his performance. Green joins a long list of NBA stars who have had LASIK to improve their performance including LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudamire and Richard Hamilton. In general, patients tell me that glasses and contacts hinder elite level sports performance. I have performed LASIK on several professional and Olympic athletes in sports ranging from cycling to baseball to golf and all have confirmed that the independence from glasses and contacts does give them an edge in their performance.
