The post How Many LASIK Surgeons Have Had LASIK Themselves? first appeared on Shapiro Laser.]]> A recent study of U.S. ophthalmologists who perform laser vision correction –either LASIK or PRK — showed that  62.6% of the surgeons who were candidates for laser eye surgery had undergone laser vision correction surgery on their own eyes. This is a much higher percentage than seen in the general population. In the United States as of 2014, 16.2 million patients had undergone laser vision correction, representing about 13.1% of those eligible for surgery. The authors of the study said the motivation behind their study was “to provide insight about the acceptance of laser vision correction by those who are presumably in a position to know the most about it.” This study shows that LASIK surgeons are nearly 4 times as likely to have laser vision correction than those in the general population — a resounding vote of confidence by those who know best!
