“What If I Move My Eye During LASIK?”

“What If I Move My Eye During LASIK?” This is a question I often hear from patients. It turns out, the answer is: “nothing!” Eye movement is no longer a concern. During LASIK, you simply look at a red light which is not itself a laser, but actually is just a target to look at. You cannot see or feel the laser. The invisible laser beam locks onto the eye and then three dimensional eye tracking systems, based on missile tracking technology from military applications, are employed to ensure the laser follows your eye in three dimensional space, even if you move it. In fact, everyone moves their eye during surgery, so eye tracking systems are essentially to optimal results in every case. I have been using various generations of eye tracking technology for almost 20 years and the most modern and sophisticated eye tracking tools allow for incredible accuracy with laser treatments, even if you move your eye!
